Meet Ouida Joi Cooper-Rodriguez, M.A.

Ouida (pronounced Weeda) Joi Cooper-Rodriguez is a seasoned nonprofit executive, organizational strategist, and Systems Architect with more than three decades of leadership experience strengthening mission-driven organizations through systems thinking, strategy, and heart-centered leadership. Her work integrates organizational development, fund development, strategic planning, authentic presence executive leadership development, and relational leadership practices to help organizations and leaders create meaningful and lasting impact.

 

Over the course of her career, Ouida Joi has served in senior leadership roles including Executive Director, Interim Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Program Officer, and Fund Development Director. She brings a holistic and relational approach to organizational leadership that recognizes the interconnectedness of people, systems, culture, strategy, and sustainability. Her work focuses not only on strengthening organizational infrastructure and operational effectiveness, but also on cultivating emotionally intelligent leadership, authentic organizational culture, and values-centered engagement.

She specializes in organizational and systems analysis, capacity building, strategic and succession planning, fund development strategy, organizational culture, and authentic presence executive leadership development. Known for her reflective and strategic leadership style, she serves as a thought partner to executives, boards, and leadership teams navigating growth, transition, organizational complexity, and evolving leadership journeys.

 

Throughout her career, Ouida Joi has helped raise or support the acquisition of more than $50 million in public and private funding for nonprofit organizations. In 2025 alone, she secured more than $400,000 in public and foundation funding within six months and submitted more than $1.5 million in additional funding requests. Her work has focused primarily within trauma-informed, low-barrier, strengths-based homelessness and housing services (HUD, ESG, and CDBG programs), affordable housing initiatives, women’s empowerment, community development, microenterprise, and food security programs.

 

Ouida Joi holds a Master of Arts in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science/Psychology (Magna Cum Laude), along with Master’s-level coursework in Social Work. She trained through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) during its founding years and brings more than two decades of experience partnering with executives and emerging leaders seeking to deepen leadership presence, strengthen emotional intelligence, reconnect with purpose, and lead more intentionally.

 

A member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Grant Professionals Association (GPA), Ouida Joi’s work is grounded in the belief that meaningful and sustainable organizational transformation emerges through the integration of systems thinking, strategic action, emotional intelligence, relational leadership, and authentic human connection.

 

An Air Force veteran, Ouida Joi began her military career as a Mental Health Clinic and Medical Social Work Specialist and later served in the Army National Guard as a Public Affairs Specialist and Broadcast Journalist.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, she spent four decades in the San Francisco Bay Area and now divides her time between Delaware, Las Vegas, and the San Francisco Bay Area. An amateur Miksang photographer and Mindfulness Meditation Facilitator, she enjoys writing, yoga, singing, travel, and spending time in nature, especially along the Pacific Ocean, where she took the home page cover photo.
